Why Ian: He is one of the most incredible surfers in every aspect of the sport, from big waves to baby barrels.

Ian Walsh was practically born in the water and has been surfing since he was a toddler. With some of the gnarliest waves in the world in his backyard, it was Ian’s destiny to become a surfer. What is so unique about Ian is his all around ability in the water. He has a gigantic bag of technical tricks on small waves, and is known for taking on some of the biggest water mountains of all time. At 16 years old he first rode Jaws, the legendary surf spot off of Maui, home to some of the biggest waves on planet earth. Before Ian had turned 21 he had been nominated for “Wave of the Year” at the Billabong XXL Awards, after taking on a gigantic 70-foot swell. The nominations have continued to pile up throughout his career, but people say that Ian’s biggest wave is yet to come. According to others, these waves were found while filming a commercial for “the world of Red Bull” in Teahupo’o, Tahiti, in 2007. Big wave surfing is a sport with no room for error. However, Walsh makes it all look second nature. We look forward to seeing everything that Ian has to offer over the next several years. May the force be with you.
