Ping Pong: Action Sport, Global Movement
by: Nathaniel Cook
We live in a world where the United States is quickly being overtaken by China and Japan as the top world economy. Social Media has blown up, and even congressmen are getting into it, tweeting their “brain trusts” for the world to see. It stands to reason then that a cross pollination of cultures would begin. Globalization has been an inevitability since Charley Kline sent the first “lol” and the Berlin Wall fell. In as much, Empire has actively been looking at home and abroad for ways to expand the action sport lexicon, and has settled on one of the most exciting and impressive sports in the world: Ping Pong.
Taking the pretension out of tennis, and making headbands cool again are just two of the wonderful gifts offered by the double P. As precedent shows, Ping Pong has a long history of bringing the world together, and impressing the bejesus out of everybody. Performing outrageous technical feats with monastic focus, they’ve certainly caught our attention, and set the word afire. So, with our sense of civic duty urging us onward, over the course of the next few months we’ll be trying to find a top tier Ping Ponger to sponsor. We will, of course, be blogging our adventures, which will likely take us from Iowa to The Orient, in search of the world’s next international action sports hero.
